La Femme Series
As a woman and an artist, I am drawn to the female form. Nearly all of my subject matter is found on the streets of large metropolitan cities. I begin with a form, such as mannequins in a store window or the dance of forms in other displays, then bring them to life through a process of blending multiple layers and textures. Informed by urban street style, the images create rhythm and often evoke a painterly impression of the photographs that lie beneath. I sometimes utilize uncharacteristic elements to evoke feminine vitality and spirit. La Femme represents the universal visual power of the female aesthetic.
"The eye-opener for me are the images by Chicago’s Gail Mancuso, which are a kind of Richard Avedon/Aaron Siskind mash-up."
